🏒 Sell the Fake, Win the Game

How “False Information” Can Help You Break Ankles on the Ice

When a defenseman bites on a fake, some people will call that luck.

But it’s actually skillful deception.

And at Pro Performance Hockey, we call it what it really is:

False information.

The best players can manipulate their opponents.

They know how to make defenders believe they’re going one way, then break the other.

This creates highlight real plays of “broken ankles” and wide-open ice.

Here’s how to do it right:

(If you prefer to watch instead of read, check out the video newsletter above)

And don’t forget to Subscribe.

1. Lean the Wrong Way

If you're attacking a defender, start by leaning your upper body in the direction you don’t want to go.

This throws their read off instantly.

2. Position the Puck Outside Your Skate Line

Shift the puck just outside your feet.

It exaggerates your body language and sells the fake harder than just a head bob.

3. Sell It With Your Head

This is what separates amateurs from elite players.

Turn your head.

Don’t just glance, fully commit.

Turn and look where you want the defender to believe you're going.

When done right, this combination of body lean, puck placement, and head turn creates a perfect illusion.

And defenders fall for it time and time again.

Practice this on every drill station:

Lean.
Extend the puck.
Turn your head.
Then snap it back.

And always remember:

Do the common thing uncommonly well.

P.S. Our summer camps start July 28th.

When you’re ready to elevate your game, here’s how I can help you:
